## Introduction

So far, I don't think PhoneGap generates icon and splash images for different devices on iOS and Android automatically. Also, modifying them for each device is quite a lot of work. You could use the following links to generate icons and splash screens.

You will need Node.js if you want to use Ionic, or Photoshop to edit the images a little bit.

## Conclusion

Generating icons and splash screen images for multiple device sizes can be tedious. Using one of the tools listed above can save significant time by automatically creating the required image sizes for both iOS and Android platforms.

## Introduction

I had an issue where my app couldn't connect to my own API on the actual or emulator Android device. My issue was resolved by making the following change to the root `config.xml`.

## Environment Info

Now, each developer's environment might be different. You might encounter the same issue but fix it with different things. At the point I was fixing my issue, my PhoneGap was using `6.4.2`, npm was `3.10.3`, Node version was `v6.7.0`, Android Studio was using `2.2.2`, and the Windows OS version was `10.0.14393`.

## Other Possible Solutions

Some people also said they had the same issue but because of a missing `cordova-plugin-whitelist` plugin. My PhoneGap `` already contains that plugin, but if you don't have it, you can try adding it to see if it fixes your issue or not.

## Content Security Policy

Also, my issue was related to HTML's Content-Security-Policy. I defined my API over there to make sure all my API calls were allowed, but at the end it still failed on the Android device. After I added my temporary access origin in the root `config.xml`, even when I removed my Content-Security-Policy tag, it still worked.

## Conclusion

If your PhoneGap app can't access your own API service, try adding access origin settings in the root `config.xml`. Each developer's environment is different, so the fix may vary. Other things to check include the `cordova-plugin-whitelist` plugin and the Content-Security-Policy meta tag. PhoneGap may have changed how it handles these configurations across versions.

## Introduction

This blog is a quick start guide or memo if you are thinking about building mobile or tablet apps with PhoneGap.

## Why PhoneGap?

The main reason is that my app will consume existing APIs which are used by other web applications, so if I could continue using the same technology stack—APIs, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript—that would be awesome. That's why I encountered PhoneGap. PhoneGap has limited access to native app APIs, but most of those are things I don't need. Building natively would provide better performance, but that's not something I need either.

Also, comparing with **Xamarin**, which is C#-based and supports iOS, Android, and Windows, it doesn't fit my scenario. **Titanium** is another platform that supports Android, iOS, and Blackberry and uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I didn't want to build natively either, as it's not suitable for my needs—spending huge amounts of time learning each app store's language and building separately.

## Getting Started with PhoneGap

1. First, you will need to go to the PhoneGap site to download the desktop app. You will use this app for development and also use your mobile app to verify your code later.

2. This is the desktop app on my Windows 10. You can create your first hello project using this UI interface.

3. It is better to install PhoneGap via npm as well, because if your mobile app is not able to connect to the desktop app, you could still use the npm command to start your PhoneGap project and then reconnect to it from your app.

If you want to start your PhoneGap project from the npm command, go to the PhoneGap project's root directory and run the following command to start:

```

The above steps are all done on your development machine. In my scenario, I used Windows 10.

Next, download the PhoneGap Developer app on your mobile device and point it to your desktop app's URL.

After that, you can view your development code from your device.

## Conclusion

PhoneGap is a great option for developers who want to build mobile apps using familiar web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It allows you to reuse existing web APIs and quickly prototype mobile applications without learning native development languages for each platform.
